Abys

Bula and Nibbles

One of the first two things you'll read about Abyssinians is, "They're not a lap-cat" & "They're the clowns of the cat world". Neither of these statements is true. An Aby will sit on your lap, but it will also sit on your head, your shoulders, and those of anyone else you bring into your home.

The Aby is not a clown, it is a highly intuitive, intelligent, affectionate yet stubborn cat that may well entertain you, but is no fool.

What you can say about Abys, is they are truly charming, and providing you love them, they will bring you more joy and companionship than you thought possible from any cat.

Man's best friend is an Abyssinian!

"Our little boy is thriving. He has become the centre of our lives, which was always the hope and plan. He is naughty, inquisitive, boisterous, licky, purry, hyperactive, loving, infuriating, soppy, conniving, manipulative, self-centred, capricious, jealous, distracting, obstructive, adored, cherished and basically perfect in every way. He is our new baby boy and we love him."

Description of Abyance Ranfurly, kindly homed by A Garner and N Marrow.

Colours

Abyssinians come in a multitude of colours, with many people having their favourites. It can be confusing online as the different colours have different terms depending on the country you are gaining the info and/or the body to which the cat is registered.

It can also sometimes be difficult to distinguish between two colours and needs an expert eye

Abyance works with mostly the below colours:

Usual (ruddy, tawny)

Blue

Sorrel (cinnamon, red)

Fawn

Chocolate

Lilac (Lavender)

Abyssinian Colours

Not just a Colour

Abyssinians are striking in their colour patterns and it's easy to get fixated on particular colours, but what really shines through them all, is their temperament and personality. Every Abyssinian is beautiful.

Acknowledgement to Aby Community

The Abyssinian is a rare breed and survives to this day because of the relentless work of breeders here in the UK and elsewhere in the world who care passionately for the breed, keeping it healthy and strong.
